About Trip Cost Tools
Trip Cost Tools helps travelers turn a route into a complete, editable budget. The site began with gas and EV calculators and now combines vehicle energy, lodging, meals, road fees, activities, contingency, per-day cost, and per-traveler cost in one browser-based planner.
What the calculators do
Every estimate is built from values the traveler can inspect and change. Gas cost uses route miles, adjusted MPG, and price per gallon. EV cost uses route miles, kWh per 100 miles, charging loss, an efficiency adjustment, and price per kWh. The vacation planner adds rooms, hotel nights, meals, activities, tolls, parking, other daily costs, and a percentage buffer.
The tools do not quote or sell hotels, fuel, charging, park admission, insurance, rentals, or tickets. They are planning calculators, not booking engines, financial advice, tax advice, or guarantees.
How current information is handled
Volatile prices stay editable because a single national average is rarely the right number for one route. When the site discusses current rules or benchmarks, it links to primary public sources such as the U.S. Energy Information Administration, National Park Service, and Internal Revenue Service. Dated 2026 guidance identifies when its sources were checked.
Official pages and local prices can change after publication. Travelers should verify the current route, checkout total, cancellation terms, tolls, charging prices, reservations, entrance rules, and operating alerts before booking or departure.
Privacy and saved plans
The calculator runs in the browser. The save button stores the entered plan in that browser's local storage. The share button creates a link containing the plan values in the URL, so review the link before sending it. Do not enter sensitive personal, payment, account, or identification information.
Editorial and correction policy
Original explanations are written to help a reader understand the math, assumptions, and tradeoffs behind an estimate. We do not claim that one trip style, vehicle, hotel, charging network, or route is best for everyone. Paid placement does not determine calculator results.
